The functions of the kidneys are:- 1. Eliminate nitrogenous wastes, toxins and drugs from your body. 2. Regulates blood volume and make up. 3. They help in regulating blood volume and make up 4. They help in regulating blood pressure. 5. They help in regulating red blood cells production in bone marrow with hormone erythropoetin. 6. They convert vitamin D to active form.
Cleaning Up The chemical reactions in our body produce a lot of wastes in our body. Also our body has sufficient amount of some substances which needs to be thrown out. So the removal of these wastes is the function of kidneys. The blood is carried to the kidneys by the renal artery which is then filtered by the functional unit of kidneys known as nephrons. The nephrons contain the glomerulus and a tubule. The glomerulus traps the proteins and large molecules and lets the blood flow through. In the tubules, the important minerals are absorbed and the final product is urine. The filtered blood goes back to the body through the renal vein.
The Path Of Urine The waste that is collected in the kidneys is combined with water and forms urine. The urine travels from the kidneys to the urinary bladder via the ureters. It is stored in the bladder and when we go to the bathroom it is thrown out of the body through the urethra.
